Three Phases of Book Coaching
Discovery + Outlining
We connect over GoogleMeet so you can share your vision for your project and what your goals are for your book.
I develop templates that will best suit your book’s sections and chapters, and we meet to discuss the approach to outlining and best practices. We also align on a general timeline for completing the outline. I usually suggest we meet biweekly to go over outlines in this phase.
As you complete the outline sections, I review and suggest revisions to improve clarity, structure, flow, and content.
When each chapter and section’s outline is complete, I will review all the materials again to ensure the structure of your book is in a great place before drafting.
Drafting
After the outline is finalized, I will develop a drafting schedule for your chapters and sections. This will include due dates for drafted chapters as well as when you can expect my edits on the drafts.
I will provide guidance on transitioning from outlining a book to drafting chapters, including best practices and suggestions for approach.
Using the finalized outlines, you will dive into drafting individual chapters, and I will provide feedback on the chapter drafts as you progress.
Revisions
After you’ve drafted each chapter and section mapped in the outline, you’ve produced your first draft manuscript! In this phase, I will be reviewing your content from top to bottom, likely three to four times.
For each review, I will pass the full manuscript to you for review so you can (1) ensure your content is reflecting exactly what you’d like to say and (2) approve suggested edits I’m proposing.
In revisions, we will be reviewing word choice, syntax, transitions, and cross-references. These are the final touches on your manuscript that take it from first-draft to a highly polished, industry-standard manuscript.
This service includes regular, one-hour biweekly meetings to review the high-level issues and action items for chapters and/or sections.
Depending on complexity and length of the project, book coaching from idea to final draft takes an estimated four to six months.
